Improver and Advanced Sailing
For those wanting to build on RYA Levels 1 & 2, or for those who’d like a refresher to help them get back into sailing, we’d recommend RYA Level 3 Better Sailing. We have the use of wayfarers, laser 2000’s, singlehanded lasers and toppers for these courses. They pack in water time so there is lots of opportunity to improve and get some coaching.
Improver & Advanced Modules
The advanced modules are all designed to be two day ./ four evening courses. These courses are great for adults, or improving young sailors. As such we don’t have an age restriction on them, but please contact us for advice for any young sailors to see if they will be ready to sail the types of boats we use on each course.
RYA Seamanship Skills is normally taught in wayfarer dinghies, and looks at the skills of anchoring, reefing afloat, sailing backwards, centreboard-less and rudderless amongst other things. Its a really good course for anyone interested in understanding more about how to sail a dinghy efficiently, and for anyone keen to better their boat handling. Also a good idea for anyone keen to become a RYA dinghy instructor or Assistant instructor as it will cover many of the elements of a pre-entry sailing assessment.
RYA Start Racing is a great course for introducing sailors to going racing, and should get you to the point that you feel confident in taking part in sailing club racing. We normally teach this course in singlehander dinghies (toppers, lasers or our feva, so that we can have a bigger fleet to race with. Great for all ages of sailor.
RYA Sailing with Spinnakers packs in a lot of water time. We have Asymmetric boats (Laser 2000 & feva) and Symmetric boats (Wayfarers) which are great boats for learning this exciting part of sailing. A great way to go faster and enjoy the buzz of sailing.
RYA Performance Sailing will use our laser 2000’s and offer lots of opportunities to be coached to sail faster and to sail more efficiently. Like a cat in silk slippers in the light stuff, and being in control of your boat and flying in the more emotional stuff! This is the most technically difficult of the RYA Advanced modules. We’d recommend Sailing with Spinnakers first, or a bit of water time in spinnaker boats.
RYA Day Sailing, is the module that looks at the adventurous world of dinghy cruising. Its an amazing feeling, ‘going foreign’ in a little boat. We run this module combined with RYA Seamanship Skills as a 5 day midweek Dinghy Cruising Course during the Summer holidays. Again, good for any age who has got to grips with the basics of sailing a wayfarer.
